Derek Johnson

Derek Johnson MSW, LMSW is a Michigan State Certified Trainer/Coach for Family Psycho-education. Derek has spent the last 10 years in the field of Family Psycho-education. Family Psycho-education is a evidence based practice for mental health treatment in the state of Michigan.

Derek completed undergraduate studies in social work at Madonna University and completed his graduate studies in social work at Michigan State University. Derek is one of eight certified family psycho-education educators for the State of Michigan. He is a consultant and trainer to other providers for evidence-based practice for family psycho-education. He has over 10 years of experience working directly with clients and their family members coping with situational stressors, substance abuse, crisis intervention, and mental illness.

Derek has worked at community mental health, and has completed internships at substance abuse clinics in Michigan. Derek is a member in good standing of the Family Psycho-education steering committee and assisted in creating the fidelity and sustainability workbook for family Psycho-education in the state of Michigan.

Derek is a dedicated husband and father to two children, he currently resides in Northern Michigan. Derek has been a lead trainer at several state-wide trainings over the last 6 years. He has worked with local community mental health boards and PHIP in the state of Michigan offering support and supervision to family psycho-education groups.
